The first years of my journey into Carrying Culture in Europe 2008
This is 2012 when we organized a babywearing parade for the 5th time in a row every year. the first one was in 2008 and we immediately came on the television because I found it necessary for the awareness of carrying baby to be spread.
There were a few people who practiced this inside homes or only around their small communities and these people were called alternatives.
The whole healthcare organisation were not yet giving advice to parents when it comes to babywearing.
I remember clearly when I was carrying my baby and went to an organisation where they weigh babies. They were either complimenting me or asking me whether its safe for the baby. I always suggested that they would advice other parents as they are the first people who come across newborns and new parents.
It took time until 2010 when I was finally allowed to give a proof workshop at Careyn in Vlaardingen. And then I went on suggesting this in hospitals where they had a trade moment between their sponsors,. I tried to fit in and see whether I could bring the message across.
I remember that the hospital in Schiedam. Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland was the first one to allow me. I was allowed to pay fr a small table. I was standing close to Nutricia, and other bigger companies that sponsored the hospital by then. Companies like pampers were there too and a whole lot of small baby shops. I went around spoke to baby shops and all other companies that were around because I knew that they had at some point interaction with new parents.
People realized I was not only talking about carrying of babies only but I had a message that was going to change a lot things. To be continued, and we are still in 2008 en 2009
